Why do people use CBD for pets?

What is CBD and the Endocannabinoid System?

CBD is cannabidiol: one of many cannabinoids found in cannabis that’s used for various health conditions and overall well-being.

CBD interacts with the endocannabinoid system (ECS), one of the body’s largest networks that regulates our physiological functions, major organs, and bodily systems 0 including our nervous, endocrine, digestive, & immune systems. The ECS maintains homeostasis: a state of internal physiological balance that allows us to adapt to change, deal with stress, and recover from injury or illness.

All vertebrae mammals have an ECS, which means CBD impacts our pets the same way it impacts us. Some ECS are unable to produce their own cannabinoids, which can cause countless health issues and painful symptoms.

When this happens, many people take cannabinoids like CBD to help the imbalance. ECS receptors are scattered throughout the body, bones, & organs, heavily in the central & peripheral nervous systems, brain, spinal cord, gut, lymphatic, & immune systems. CBD interacts with these and influences pain, inflammation, sleep, stress, memory, mood, metabolism, cognition, bone repair & growth, immune function, and much more.

As with anything, consistency provides the most effective results. Research supports that regularly giving our pets CBD encourages homeostasis and supports healthy immune function. Many take CBD daily to help prevent future issues and encourage healthy bodily function. Since our fur babies are smaller with more delicate systems, they likely don’t need as large of a dose.

How much CBD do I give my pet?

Each pet is different, so the preferred dosage takes time to find. Many experts agree an ideal starting dosage for animals is 1.5MG to 5MG per 10 pounds of body weight.

  • 1.5MG per 10lbs for general wellness.

  • 3MG per 10lbs for medium/moderate conditions and issues.

  • 5MG per 10 lbs for severe issues and conditions.

We recommend starting with this routine then slowly increasing the dosage over time based on your pet’s needs and veterinarian’s recommendations. Our pet CBD line, Pawesome CBD, is veterinarian-formulated and dosed by the drop, not dropper full.

All products are hemp-derived and contain less than 0.3% Delta 9 THC.
